My name is Karen Townsend, and I want to serve as the next District Court Judge for Missoula and Mineral Counties. I am seeking this position because I am especially well qualified to be a district judge based on my experience, my energy, my sense of fairness, my compassion, my temperament, my willingness and ability to work hard, and my common sense. I am well prepared to serve the citizens of Missoula and Mineral counties as District Judge, as the information on the several pages of this site will attest.
Contested elections for district judges in this district have been rare. One was held in 1980 and one in 2006. In 1988 and 1997, gubernatorial appointments filled judicial vacancies and then the sitting judges ran unopposed for new terms. In 2010, the citizens of the district will get to choose their District Judge.
It is also time that a woman should serve on the bench in this district. At least one female District Court Judge serves in almost every other judicial district in the state, but no woman has ever served for Missoula and Mineral Counties. Of course, being a woman is in itself not a qualification to serve. After you have reviewed my qualifications, however, I believe that you will find that I would be not only the first woman to serve as District Court Judge in this district, but, much more importantly, a judge whose credentials and qualifications for the position are of the first rank.
If you have ideas, comments, or suggestions, or if there are issues you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me at (406) 396-1785 or email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to meeting you during the campaign.
